All about collagen
Let’s meet number one of the 2023 health trends. Collagen supplements have been on a very steady rise, and will continue to grow in popularity in the new year.
In fact, the global collagen market is expected to reach $5.77bn USD by 2028, so it’s clearly a trend to jump on as soon as possible!
Collagen is most often associated with hair, nails and skin health, which of course are just some of its incredible benefits.
But in 2023, we see collagen’s other significant health benefits getting some of the limelight.
Collagen can also:
- Protect your joints by helping to maintain your cartilage – the rubber-like tissue that guards your joints.
- Prevent bone loss as your bones are mainly made up of collagen, it gives them their strength and structure.
- Boost your muscle mass as its a crucial building block of skeletal muscle. Studies have suggested that collagen supplements may boost muscle mass in people with sarcopenia, the loss of muscle mass that happens with ageing.
There are plenty of food sources of collagen, including poultry, seafood, egg whites, citrus, berries, leafy greens, beans and tomatoes.
And while you should always aim to get your nutrients from your diet first, using supplements can assist in boosting your collagen consumption.
Our go-to collagen supplement at the moment is the BodyScience Tendoforte® Collagen Regenerate. This product contains unflavoured bio-active collagen peptide powder offers nutrition for the tendons, ligaments and skin.
Always speak to your health professional before making changes to your diet and supplements.
Recovery clinics
2023 health trends number two.
We all know the importance of exercise and moving our bodies to maintain our health and wellbeing. And while this will forever be a priority, 2023 is going to see a further rise in recovery-style gyms and centres.
This includes treatments and experiences like infrared saunas, red light therapy, ice baths, cryotherapy, compression recovery, hyperbaric oxygen therapy and float tanks.
Ensuring your muscles are recovering properly not only helps improve building muscle mass, but avoiding injury. It also brings focus to caring and nurturing your body, just as much as using it to workout.
Wearable wellness tech
Fitness trackers and watches might seem like old news. In fact, around $90 billion was spent by people around the world on wearable tech in 2022.
But we’re talking about something other than watch-style trackers for 2023 health trends!
Next year it will be the rise of rings, belts and even underwear in the wearable wellness tech space that track everything from your heart rate, sleep patterns, calorie burn. Some even help relieve pain.
Take the Painpod Belt. This wearable device helps manage pain by using Microcurrent Technology and can be used on the torso or limbs.
We’re hearing more and more about the vast health benefits of getting a good night’s sleep. Enter: the Oura ring.
Wearing this ring daily and to bed tracks your sleep quality and stages with research-grade sensors. Capturing all the information and storing it in its mobile app, you can see your sleep quality score which is calculate based on your quality and duration of deep sleep, REM sleep and light sleep. It’ll then let you know how to improve. Not bad!
Now this one might sounds a little wild, but you can get actually get a fitness tracker in the form of underwear.
Whoop have created performance intimates that contain an internal WHOOP® pod in the band which tracks your workout to your Whoop app. Incredible isn’t it?
Mental fitness
While it’ll never not be important to keep your physical fitness up, 2023 will be the year for mental fitness.
The term has gone gangbuster on social media this year already, with #mentalfitness garnering more than 100,000 posts on Instagram and 58.5 million views on TikTok.
“Mental fitness is like physical fitness, where you’re engaging in mind-body strategies, like meditation, regularly,” therapist Allyson Byers tells Well & Good.
“This results in being able to better handle life’s challenges and more days in which you’re performing your best.”

Choosing to consume less alcohol to benefit the body and overall is a trend gaining more and more traction.
In fact, the low and no-alcohol industry is expected to increase by 16 per cent in Australia by 2024. So you best believe we’ll see more booze-free booze, and more people consuming it in 2023.
